Subject: | Designating the Monarch as the Official Butterfly of the Commonwealth |
The Monarch butterfly population has been in a steady decline over the past several years due to loss of habitat, pesticide/herbicide use and severe weather. Monarchs need the public’s help to survive. The study of the life cycle of the butterfly is part of most school curriculums to educate children about butterflies. It is our responsibility to make sure future generations are able to experience the wonder of the butterfly and the miracle of metamorphosis. Public awareness and education are vital to improve the population on the Monarch butterfly and ensure the survival of the species. In an effort to raise awareness of the plight of the Monarch butterfly and promote conservation of the Monarch butterfly and its habitat, I would like to offer legislation designating the Monarch butterfly as the official butterfly of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. Please join me in cosponsoring this legislation. Thank you. |
