MEMORANDUM

Posted: March 10, 2016 11:31 AM
From: Representative Keith Gillespie and Rep. Ted Harhai
To: All House members
Subject: Pennsylvania Fish and Boat Commission’s 150th Anniversary

In the near future, we plan to introduce a resolution commemorating the 150th anniversary of the Pennsylvania Fish and Boat Commission (PFBC).

Since its establishment on March 30, 1866, the PFBC has evolved from a one-man operation to a nationally recognized professional agency, steadfastly implementing its mission to protect, conserve, and enhance aquatic resources and provide fishing and boating opportunities.

As Chairmen of the House Game and Fisheries Committee, We are keenly aware of the important role that fishing and boating play in communities and local economies across Pennsylvania. An estimated 1.1 million anglers and over 3 million boaters enjoy Pennsylvania’s waters each year, generating $1.2 billion in annual fishing-related expenditures.

With more than 86,000 miles of streams and nearly 4,000 lakes, ponds, and reservoirs, the Commonwealth’s aquatic resources are extensive, rich, and diverse. We are fortunate to have the PFBC to manage and safeguard the aquatic habitats and species that are found throughout Pennsylvania.

Thank you for your consideration in joining as a co-sponsor of this historic resolution.
