A RESOLUTION
1Memorializing Margaret Thatcher as a great American friend and
2British patriot.
3WHEREAS, Margaret Thatcher, the longest serving Prime
4Minister of the United Kingdom during the 20th century, passed
5away on Monday, April 8, 2013; and
6WHEREAS, Mrs. Thatcher was the first and only woman to serve
7in the role of Prime Minister of the United Kingdom and the
8first woman to lead a Western democracy; and
9WHEREAS, Mrs. Thatcher was nicknamed the "Iron Lady" by a
10Soviet journalist for her uncompromising politics and leadership
11style; and
12WHEREAS, Mrs. Thatcher is widely credited with reshaping
13Britain's policies and transforming the country's economy; and
14WHEREAS, Mrs. Thatcher's profound rejection of Communism
1cemented a close relationship with President Ronald Reagan,
2while still earning the respect of Mikhail S. Gorbachev; and
3WHEREAS, Mrs. Thatcher will be accorded a ceremonial funeral
4with military honors by her country; therefore be it
5RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives memorialize
6Margaret Thatcher as a great American friend and British patriot
7and honor her enduring legacy.
