A RESOLUTION
Designating the month of April 2024 as "Arab American Heritage
Month" in Pennsylvania.
WHEREAS, The Commonwealth takes great pride in the varied
religious and cultural traditions of its residents and seeks to
afford all people in Pennsylvania the opportunity to better
understand, recognize and appreciate the contributions,
histories and cultures of Arab Americans; and
WHEREAS, Arab Americans have a rich history in Pennsylvania,
making invaluable contributions to the growth and diversity of
our communities; and
WHEREAS, Pennsylvania has one of the fastest growing Arab
American populations in the United States, and the Arab American
Institute estimates more than 182,000 Arab Americans live in
this Commonwealth; and
WHEREAS, Arab Americans have excelled in various fields,
including business, medicine, law, engineering, arts and

government; and
WHEREAS, Arab Americans have been at the forefront of civic
and political life, advocating for social justice, civil rights
and human rights, making significant contributions to the
advancement of democracy and the well-being of all
Pennsylvanians; and
WHEREAS, Arab Americans have fought for the United States
since its origins, with historical evidence showing Arab
Americans served during the Revolutionary War; and
WHEREAS, An estimated 14,000 Arab Americans served in World
War I and more than 15,000 served in World War II, the highest
percent of any ethnic group serving the United States military
during the war; and
WHEREAS, Notable Arab Americans include esteemed writer and
artist Khalil Gibran, former Majority Leader of the United
States Senate George Mitchell, as well as actors and
entertainers such as Tony Shalhoub, Salma Hayek, Rami Malek,
Casey Kasem, Gigi Hadid, DJ Khaled and Danny Thomas; and
WHEREAS, The month of April has been designated as "Arab
American Heritage Month" in recognition of the contributions,
achievements and cultural heritage of Arab Americans across the
United States; and
WHEREAS, Recognizing and celebrating "Arab American Heritage
Month" in Pennsylvania promotes understanding, respect and
appreciation for the rich diversity of this Commonwealth while
fostering mutual understanding and friendship among all
communities; therefore be it
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives designate the
month of April 2024 as "Arab American Heritage Month" in
Pennsylvania.
