Daily Session Update

Organization of the 191st Regular Session of the House of Representatives

January 2, 2007

 

 

As appointed by Article 2, Section 4, of the Constitution of Pennsylvania for the meeting of the General Assembly the House of Representatives came to order at 12 noon.

 

Deputy Secretary of the Commonwealth Andrew Sislo presented the election returns for all candidates for membership in the House of Representatives.

The Oath of Office was administered by the Honorable William R. Nalitz, Judge, Court of Common Pleas, Greene County Superior Court of Pennsylvania.

 

In Accordance with the Provisions of Article 2 Section 9, of the Constitution of Pennsylvania, the house proceeded to elect a Speaker.  Honorable Dennis M. O’Brien  was elected Speaker.

 

The oath of office was then administered to the Speaker-Elect by the Honorable Correale Stevens, Judge, Court of Common Pleas, Philadelphia.

 

The Mace was placed on the Rostrum indicating that the House is in Session.

 

The Speaker appointed Reizdan Moore as Parliamentarian of the House.

 

A Committee consisting of Representatives O’Neill, Mackereth, Youngblood and Fabrizio was appointed to notify the Senate that the House of Representatives is organized.  The House and Senate are required by statute to meet in Joint Session to certify election returns for the offices of Attorney General, Auditor General and State Treasurer.

 

A Committee consisting of Representatives Hanna, Daley, Gingrich, DiGirolamo and Solobay was appointed to notify the Governor that the House and Senate is organized.

 

The Speaker appointed the following members of the Committee on Committees:

The Clerk of the Senate being introduced, presented the following extract from the Journal of the Senate, which was read as follows:

January 2, 2007

 

RESOLVED, (the House of Representatives concurring), Pursuant to Article II, Section 14 of the Pennsylvania Constitution, that when the Regular Session of the Senate recesses this week, it reconvene on Tuesday, January 16, 2007, unless sooner recalled by the President Pro Tempore of the Senate; and be it further

 

RESOLVED, Pursuant to Article II, Section 14 of the Pennsylvania Constitution, that when the Regular Session of the House of Representatives recesses this week, it reconvene on Tuesday, January 16, 2007 unless sooner recalled by the Speaker of the House of Representatives.

 

Ordered, That the Clerk present the same to the House of Representatives for its concurrence.
