MEMORANDUM

Posted: January 11, 2013 03:19 PM
From: Representative Vanessa Lowery Brown
To: All House members
Subject: RESOLUTION HONORING THE LEGACY OF DR. MARTIN LUTHER KING, JR.

In the near future, I, in conjunction with the Pennsylvania Legislative Black Caucus, intend to introduce a resolution honoring the life and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.

As you are aware, Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. is widely regarded as one of the greatest leaders in modern world history. Not only did his non-violent and peaceful teachings pave the way for racial equality in America during the 1950’s and beyond, but many of his speeches and lectures constitute some of the most revered orations ever rendered in the English language.

Under Dr. King’s humanistic vision, the seeds of racism, discrimination, bigotry, and prejudice would one day be supplanted by an all-inclusive spirit of sisterhood and brotherhood. These foregoing principles, which have been embraced by subsequent generations and extensively studied by scholars worldwide, will no doubt be firmly ensconced in the annals of history.

As such, in an effort to further advance the dream, vision, principles and the interests of people of color in this Commonwealth, both the Pennsylvania Legislative Black Caucus and I would like to honor the life and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.
