Subject: | Cell phone warning label legislation |
In the near future, I will be re-introducing former House Bill 1408, Printer’s Number 1682, which would require the placement of warning labels upon cellular telephones. As you may remember, this legislation proposed to create the Children’s Wireless Protection Act. Specifically, this act would prohibit the sale of cellular telephones unless both the product and its packaging display a non-removable warning label outlining the dangerous and fatal effects of cellular telephone usage. In addition, this bill would require all stores, retailers and businesses selling cellular telephones for profit, to prominently display signs, brochures, leaflets and other paraphernalia that bear the aforementioned warning label. Lastly, this measure would authorize the Pennsylvania Attorney General to order the recall and replacement of all cellular telephones that are not in compliance with the labeling requirements pursuant to this act. In summary, the overall impetus behind this legislation is to create widespread awareness among the citizens of this Commonwealth regarding the possible health risks, particularly as they relate to pregnant women and children under the age of thirteen, of direct exposure to electromagnetic radiation, which is emitted through the usage of cellular telephones.
