MEMORANDUM

To: All House members
Subject: RESOLUTION RECOGNIZING MAY 14, 2013 AS "ALPHA KAPPA ALPHA SORORITY DAY" IN PENNSYLVANIA

In the near future, I plan to introduce a resolution recognizing May 14, 2013 as “Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Day” In Pennsylvania.

Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. was founded on January 15, 1908, by nine college-educated women at Howard University to promote peace and to improve the quality of life for citizens globally through its myriad community service programs.

As the oldest Greek-lettered organization established by African American women, the sorority currently boasts of a membership of more than 250,000 in over 900 graduate and undergraduate chapters in the United States, the Caribbean, Canada, Germany, Korea, and Japan.

Additionally, it is important to note that AKA membership is comprised of only the most distinguished women in possession of stellar academic records, robust leadership qualities, and an altruistic spirit of advocacy and public service.

Therefore, I ask that all of our members please join me as a co-sponsor in recognizing May 14, 2013 as “Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Day” in Pennsylvania.

If you should have any questions or concerns regarding this legislation, please contact Fran Harris at (717) 772-6955 or fharris@pahouse.net.
