| In the near future, I will be introducing a resolution recognizing The Sickle Cell Disease Association of America, Philadelphia/Delaware Valley Chapter’s 16th Annual Walter E. Brandon Sickle Cell 5K Walk/Run, which will take place on Saturday, September 28, 2013 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. The Sickle Cell Disease Association, Philadelphia/Delaware Valley Chapter was founded in 1982 by Reverend Walter E. Brandon and Willie J. Hubert, who devoted their lives to providing hope and inspiration to innumerable individuals and families afflicted with and impacted by sickle cell disease. Following Reverend Walter E. Brandon’s passing 1998, the Board of Directors named the agency’s annual walk-a-thon in memory of his life-long commitment to advocacy in the sickle cell community. As such, in the spirit of recognizing the month of September as Sickle Cell Awareness Month, and in an effort to promote an invaluable vehicle that creates public awareness about sickle cell disease, sickle cell trait and the importance of testing, I wish to take this opportunity to formally acknowledge the Sickle Cell Disease Association of America/Philadelphia/Delaware Valley Chapter’s 16th Annual Walter E. Brandon Sickle Cell 5K Walk/Run. I ask that you please join me in co-sponsoring this resolution for this very worthwhile event.
