MEMORANDUM

Posted: December 2, 2013 04:24 PM
From: Representative Vanessa Lowery Brown
To: All House members
Subject: Honoring the life and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.

In the near future, I intend to introduce a resolution honoring the life and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.

During his short though profoundly impactful life, Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.’s leadership within the American Civil Rights Movement resulted in more genuine and substantive progress in the way of securing racial equality in America than had been produced in the previous 350 years.

Widely regarded as America’s pre-eminent advocate of nonviolence and one of the most notable nonviolent leaders in world history, Dr. King truly lived and embodied the principles upon which he preached and espoused. On October 14, 1964, and in proper recognition of his efforts in leading the non-violent resistance to racial prejudice in the United States, Dr. King was conferred the distinguished honor of being named the youngest recipient of the Nobel Peace Prize.

Therefore, as we endeavor to further advance the dream, vision, and principles of Dr. King, both I and the Pennsylvania Legislative Black Caucus would like to take this opportunity to urge our colleagues to please join us in formally honoring the life and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.

Should you have any questions or concerns regarding this measure, please feel free to contact Fran Harris at (717)772-6955 or Fharris@pahouse.net
