MEMORANDUM

Posted: February 1, 2017 11:48 AM
From: Representative Marcia M. Hahn
To: All House members
Subject: Amending Lethal Weapons Training Act (Former HB 2360)

In the near future I will introduce legislation to amend the Lethal Weapons Training Act.

In 2012, the General Assembly amended the Municipal Police Officers Education and Training Act to permit military police and federal law enforcement officers to be granted waivers of certain training requirements when seeking to become police officers in Pennsylvania. Similarly, this legislation will allow retired out-of-state police officers to be granted waivers from certain training requirements under the Lethal Weapons Training Act when seeking to become privately employed agents. Specifically, the legislation provides that a retired police officer who has served as a full-time police officer in another jurisdiction, who has separated from law enforcement in good standing and who has become a privately employed agent within three years of retirement may have certain training requirements waived.

This proposal mirrors the language currently found in the Lethal Weapons Training Act which applies to retired police officers and state troopers who served the Commonwealth. Currently, under the Lethal Weapons Training Act, a police officer who served the Commonwealth for 20 years and retired in good standing may have certain training requirements waived. The retired police officer who has served the Commonwealth must become a privately employed agent with three years of retirement.

Please join me in co-sponsoring this legislation.
