MEMORANDUM

Posted: May 19, 2017 01:49 PM
From: Representative Ryan A. Bizzarro
To: All House members
Subject: Resolution Designating September 2017 as “Light the Night Walk Month”

In the near future, I will be introducing a resolution designating September 2017 as “Light the Night Walk Month” in Pennsylvania.

Since the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (LLS) was founded in 1949, it has dedicated more than $1 billion in funding for blood cancer research and patient services. Through fundraising and outreach efforts, the LLS has helped hundreds of thousands of people diagnosed with many types of blood cancer live normal and productive lives.

Each year the LLS helps coordinate “Light the Night Walks” in more than 200 local communities throughout North America to honor both blood cancer survivors and those that have succumbed to the disease. The donations raised by “Light the Night Walk” participants directly fund breakthrough therapies for blood cancer patients and provide access to treatment, support programs and educational materials. Families, friends and co-workers also form fundraising teams and millions of consumers lend to the cause by donating at retail outlets.

This year, a total of ten (10) Pennsylvania communities will be holding “Light the Night Walks.” They include Erie, Wrightsville, Wayne, Pittsburgh, Center Valley, Johnstown, Harrisburg, Doylestown, Scranton and Philadelphia. Therefore, it is imperative for our commonwealth to raise further awareness about blood cancers and to support additional research efforts.

I ask that you please join me in co-sponsoring this legislation.
