Subject: | Require 1st and 2nd Class City Representation on Fire Safety Advisory Committee |
In the near future, I will introduce legislation amending Title 35 (Health and Safety) of PACS, to add four new members to the Fire Safety Advisory Committee. Specifically, my bill increases the overall number of paid firefighters from two to four. Of these two new members, who are to be appointed by the Governor, one must be from a First Class City and the other from a Second Class City. This legislation also increases the number of volunteer firefighters from four to six members. In addition to the director of PEMA, the State Fire Commissioner, and one member of the public, the committee is currently comprised of two paid firefighters and four volunteer firefighters. There is no requirement that any of the paid firefighter committee members be from a 1st or 2nd class city, which causes a disparity in representation on the committee. We all know that urban firefighting is very different from rural firefighting. My legislation will ensure that our urban firefighters are adequately represented and their concerns are heard. Please join me in cosponsoring this very important legislation. |
