Subject: | CPR and AED Awareness Week Resolution |
Please join me in co-sponsoring a resolution recognizing June 1 through 7, 2021, as "National Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) and Automated External Defibrillator (AED) Awareness Week" in the Commonwealth. In 2007, a coalition of the American Heart Association, American Red Cross, National Safety Council and others worked collaboratively to designate a National CPR and AED Awareness Week. On December 13, 2007, Congress unanimously passed a resolution to set aside June 1-7 each year as National CPR and AED Awareness Week to spotlight how lives can be saved if more Americans know CPR and how to use an AED. Almost 300,000 casualties of out-of-hospital cardiac arrest are treated each year in the U.S, with less than 8% surviving. Less than one-third of out-of-hospital sudden cardiac arrest casualties receive bystander CPR. Effective bystander CPR, provided immediately after sudden cardiac arrest, can double or triple a person’s chance of survival. Clearly, time and proper technique are of the essence and can literally save the life of a sudden cardiac arrest victim. Please join me in support of this important initiative to increase awareness and educate the public about CPR and AED’s. If you have any questions regarding this resolution, please contact Christine Zubeck in my office at 717-787-6123 or czubeck@pasen.gov. Thank you for your consideration. |
