Subject: | Pearl Harbor Day - 80th Anniversary |
In the near future, I plan on introducing a resolution commemorating December 7, 2021 as “Pearl Harbor Remembrance Day” in Pennsylvania – the 80th anniversary of the Pearl Harbor attack. December 7, 1941, is a day that forever will live in infamy. Our nation was not the same as we entered into the Second World War. On that day the Japanese launched a surprise attack on the Pearl Harbor Naval Base in Hawaii. The attack lasted only two hours but caused tremendous damage and loss. Over 3,500 military personnel and civilians were killed or injured, and 19 ships were either destroyed or run aground and over 300 aircraft were either destroyed or damaged during the attack. Pennsylvania also suffered loss that day. There were 22 known servicemen from Pennsylvania who lost their lives. These men and women served with great valor to protect and defend our freedom and our country. Pennsylvania will forever remember the individuals who fought back and those who were lost that day, and to honor them I am offering this resolution. |
