Subject: | Fire Course Registry |
In the near future, I plan to introduce legislation that would create an online registry of fire courses for firefighters -- similar to what is maintained within the Department of Health’s Bureau of EMS for medical responders, EMTs and paramedics. Pennsylvania currently has a decentralized system to train and certify firefighters. Training takes place at the State Fire Academy, Community Colleges, County Training Centers, and through other organizations -- but there is no centralized registry for firefighters, fire chiefs, and administrative officers to easily verify training and certification. My legislation would implement a comprehensive registry of all courses that are successfully completed by a firefighter within the Office of the State Fire Commissioner. Such a system would be highly useful for both a fire company as well as a firefighter -- to be able to access, track and maintain their records on an ongoing basis. It would also greatly improve data collection and allow for better decision making at the state and local levels. Please join me in sponsoring this important legislation. |
