Senate of Pennsylvania
Session of 2021 - 2022 Regular Session

MEMORANDUM

Posted: March 4, 2022 12:00 PM
From: Senator Maria Collett
To: All Senate members
Subject: Greek Independence Day in Pennsylvania

As a proud Greek American and Officer of the World Hellenic Inter-Parliamentary Association, I plan to introduce a resolution in the near future to designate March 25, 2022, as Greek Independence Day in Pennsylvania. The impact of Greece on the United States is undeniable. Our Founding Fathers drew upon Greek values and ideals when creating our bold experiment in democracy. As the war for Ukrainian independence and sovereignty rages, it is especially fitting that we recognize and celebrate the lasting legacy that democratic principles ushered in by Greece have played in nation-building and unity among people across the world.

May our reflection and celebration of Greek Independence Day here in Pennsylvania serve as a beacon of hope, unity, and collective solidarity to all peoples aspiring to a free and democratic form of government. Please join me to recognize the significant role that Greek Americans have played in the economic, cultural, and social development of the Commonwealth and the world.
