MEMORANDUM

Posted: December 17, 2012 01:50 PM
From: Representative Anthony M. DeLuca
To: All House members
Subject: Criminal Records Checks (HB 1721 of 2011)

In the near future I will be re-introducing legislation (HB 1721 of 2011) amending the Public School Code to require criminal records checks for all employees every seven (7) years.

Currently all prospective employees are required to submit, with their employment applications, background checks. However, after being hired, no further update and submission and review of such records is required.

My legislation would require all employees to submit initial records within 2 years of the date this legislation passes and then every 7 years thereafter. This change to the School Code would enable school districts to have accurate, up to date information, and to protect our students even further.

We require continuing education for teachers; we should also require continue protection for our children and our schools.
