In the near future, I will be re-introducing legislation – former House Bill 2611 – that will amend Title 42 (Judiciary and Judicial Procedure) of the Pennsylvania Consolidated Statutes by requiring all homeless sexual offenders to verify their registration information every seven days with the Pennsylvania State Police (PSP).

According to the PSP, there are currently 35 homeless sexual offenders living in Pennsylvania. Under current law, homeless sexual offenders are only required to check-in with the PSP once a month to verify their registration information. These sexual offenders, who currently have no physical residence, must instead inform police of a location that they often frequent. However, considering homeless sexual offenders oftentimes roam their communities and are not always at their listed location, requiring them to check-in and update their registration information once a week will improve the safety of the communities in which they reside. If they change their listed information from the previous week, the local police will be notified and be better equipped to keep a watchful eye on the homeless sexual offender.
