Subject: | Cosponsorship - Taxing smokeless tobacco and roll-your-own cigarettes for property tax relief |
When the new legislative session begins, I will introduce legislation to increase the amount of funding available for property tax relief by taxing smokeless tobacco and roll-your-own cigarettes. Our current sales tax system is riddled with special exemptions and inconsistencies, and this is one small step forward to rectify that situation. The taxes on these two items are revenue neutral, as all proceeds go directly into the Property Tax Relief Fund for disbursement to Pennsylvanians. Property taxes are a complex and ongoing challenge. I believe that we must continue to act to alleviate the stresses on our families while we pursue a holistic and more permanent solution.
