MEMORANDUM

Posted: January 14, 2013 09:59 AM
From: Representative John A. Lawrence
To: All House members
Subject: Consolidate Capitol Police Forces - Former HR 359

Dear Colleagues –

We are all aware that the Commonwealth is facing a difficult fiscal situation. It is incumbent upon each of us to seek out redundancies in government to save precious tax dollars.

Currently, the state capitol complex is served by three security forces – the Capitol Police, the House of Representatives security force, and the Senate security force. While I have tremendous respect for the individuals who serve and protect us each and every day, I believe it is difficult to justify three separate police forces protecting the same building.

In the near future, I will introduce a resolution directing the Legislative Budget and Finance Committee to conduct a study considering the consolidation of these three institutions. I would appreciate your consideration and support of this initiative.

Introduced as HR72
