House of Representatives
Session of 2013 - 2014 Regular Session

MEMORANDUM

Posted: January 14, 2013 04:10 PM
From: Representative James R. Roebuck, Jr.
To: All House members
Subject: Provisional Vocational Certificate Expansion

In the near future, I will be introducing legislation to provide an additional two years to allow a Vocational I (provisional) certificate holder to obtain the credits needed for a Vocational II certificate.

The current law requires 18 credits in an approved program for Vocational I certification which is valid for six years. In order to obtain a Vocational II certificate 60 credits are required along with three years of satisfactory teaching.

The reason for this legislation is to clear up any misinterpretation between the law and the requirements within the Department of Education. It also requires a total of 78 credits within an eight year time frame to obtain Vocational II (permanent) certification.

Last session, this was HB684. Previous Co-Sponsors included – Bishop, V. Brown, Caltagirone, Carroll, Cohen, DeLuca, Fabrizio, Fleck, Freeman, Harkins, Kirkland, Kortz, Longietti, Mundy, Murt, O’Neill, Parker, Pashinski, Readshaw, Santarsiero, Tallman, Thomas, and Youngblood.

If you have any questions regarding this legislation, please contact my office at 717-787-7044.

Thank you for your support.
