Subject: Creation of the Pennsylvania Tourism Commission
 
I am planning to reintroduce legislation (former HB 2056 of last session) to create an independent Pennsylvania Tourism Commission that would be the state's official tourism marketing agency.

Promoting Pennsylvania as a travel destination is currently a responsibility of DCED. With tourist dollars becoming increasingly more important to local economies across the state, I believe it's time for Pennsylvania to transfer this responsibility to a public-private partnership made up of tourism marketing professionals and industry stakeholders. Tourism generates $37 billion in economic activity in the state every year, so it's important that we do all we can to help grown the industry so it can create and maintain new jobs.
