Subject: | Resolution Resolution extending condolences on the passing of Dr. Arlene Ackerman |
In the coming days, I plan to introduce a Resolution extending condolences on the death of Dr. Arlene Ackerman, former Superintendent of the School District of Philadelphia. On February, 2, 2013, Dr. Ackerman lost her battle with Pancreatic Cancer at her home in Albuquerque, New Mexico. As many of you know, Dr. Ackerman was a champion for equal access to education for each and every student within the School District of Philadelphia during her three years leading the school district. A career educator, and champion for education, her professional reputation was renowned for doing what was right. In essence, Dr. Ackerman refused to back down from what she believed was in the best interests of the students. For her diligent efforts, in 2010, Dr. Ackerman was recognized by the Council of Great City Schools as the top Urban Schools Chief for 2010 which coincides with many of her other professional accolades. With that said, it is for these reasons and more that I am honored to offer this Resolution. As such, if you have any questions, please contact my Research Analyst -- Takesha Latham at (717) 705-1943. Thank you! |
