MEMORANDUM

To: All House members
Subject: Co-sponsorship of Resolution - Supporting the State of Israel

In the near future, I am planning to introduce a resolution that will express support for the State of Israel. The resolution will recognize the geopolitical challenges Israel faces, and will highlight the unique relationship that has existed between the United States and Israel since the inception of Israel as a nation.

Since the formation of the State of Israel as a sovereign nation in 1948, the United States of America and Israel have been strong allies with shared values and principles inherent in free, democratic societies. Since its inception, the State of Israel has also been surrounded by hostile neighboring countries, some of whom are known to indirectly sponsor terrorist attacks against Israeli citizens and have publicly threatened to destroy Israel and the United States, with nuclear weapons. Indeed, the nation of Iran has made repeated attempts to build an illicit nuclear weapons program toward achieving this end. The resolution will recognize these geopolitical challenges facing Israel as a true democracy in the Middle East. It will also celebrate the unique relationship that has existed between the United States and Israel as strong allies in supporting, promoting and defending the principles of freedom and democracy, and in seeking peaceful solutions through negotiations with Israel’s neighbors in the Middle East.

If you would like to co-sponsor this resolution, please contact my office.
