Subject: | Resolution Honoring the Cambodian New Year on April 13, 2013 |
TO: Members of the House of Representatives FROM: Representative Mark Painter DATE: March 13, 2013 RE: Resolution Honoring the Cambodian New Year on April 13, 2013 In the near future, I plan to introduce a resolution commemorating the Cambodian New Year, which occurs this year on April 13th, 14th, and 15th. There is a sizeable Cambodian-American community in the United States, including Philadelphia, which is home to one of the largest Cambodian-American communities in our nation. New Year is the most important holiday in the Cambodian calendar and major celebrations are held each year in Philadelphia and in other Cambodian-American communities. On a personal note, I have Cambodian-American family members, so the holiday has special significance to me, although I do not offer this resolution for personal reasons. I offer it because Cambodian-Americans have become an important, albeit sometimes under-appreciated, part of our common Pennsylvania heritage. Please join me in encouraging the General Assembly to honor the Cambodian New Year in celebration of the Cambodian-American community in our Commonwealth. |
