| Subject: | Legislation amending the First Class Township Code by permitting first class township police officers and firefighters to participate in political campaign activities so long as they are not on duty or in uniform (Former HB 997) |
| In the near future, I plan to re-introduce former HB 997 which would amend the First Class Township Code by permitting first class township police officers and firefighters to participate in political campaign activities so long as they are not on duty or in uniform. Furthermore, my legislation will stipulate that the first class township police officers and firefighters may not engage in campaigning while using property of the political subdivision. Currently, first class township police officers and firefighters are prohibited from participating in political activity. This legislation will provide consistency throughout townships of the first class and incorporated boroughs and towns with regard to political campaign and election participation by police officers and firefighters.
