MEMORANDUM

Posted: April 23, 2013 09:34 AM
From: Representative Michael H. Schlossberg
To: All House members
Subject: Resolution Commemorating 65th Anniversary of State of Israel

In the near future, I will introduce a resolution commemorating the 65th anniversary of the State of Israel.

On May 14, 1948, the State of Israel was established as an independent Jewish state in the ancient lands of the Middle East where the Jewish people have deep roots. The Jewish people have historically endured great persecution and were largely dislocated from this geographical area for approximately 2,000 years. However, in 1947, the United Nations General Assembly adopted a resolution calling for the establishment of an independent Jewish state in this region.
Having resettled in the land of their ancestors, over the course of the last 65 years, they have created a successful democracy in the Middle East in a sovereign state with a strong economy, a powerful military, and a commitment to peace among all people. The State of Israel has been a strong ally to the United States of America in this region, and this relationship continues today.

Please join me in commemorating the State of Israel on its 65th anniversary.
