MEMORANDUM

Posted: June 10, 2013 08:53 AM
From: Representative Mark Painter
To: All House members
Subject: Legislation Allowing Former Mayors to Solemnize Marriages

In the very near future, I plan to introduce legislation that amends Title 23 (Domestic Relations) of the Pennsylvania Consolidated Statutes for the purpose of removing a provision that prohibits former mayors of cities or boroughs within this Commonwealth from solemnizing marriages if they have been defeated for re-election.

I believe it is appropriate to allow all former mayors who served honorably, but were defeated for re-election, to have the authority to officiate wedding ceremonies. Please join me in co-sponsoring this legislation.

Introduced as HB1922
