Subject: | Resolution Recognizing the Borough of Mahanoy City on its 150th Anniversary |
Next week I will introduce a resolution to recognize the Borough of Mahanoy City on its 150th anniversary. Mahanoy City, located in northeastern Schuylkill County, was officially incorporated as a borough on December 16, 1863. It quickly became a major center of northeastern Pennsylvania’s anthracite coal mining industry. It is also the birthplace of the first cable television system in the country, as well as the birthplace of numerous nationally recognized composers and film directors, novelists, inventors, Major League Baseball players, and professional basketball players and coaches During the week of August 18 through 24, 2013, Mahanoy City will be holding its sesquicentennial celebration in conjunction with the 2013 Schuylkill County Volunteer Firefighters’ Convention, and many community activities are planned. Please join me in recognizing Mahanoy City on this important anniversary. |
