MEMORANDUM

To: All House members
Subject: College Radio Day in the Commonwealth

I will be introducing a resolution which designates Tuesday, October 1, 2013 as College Radio Day in the Commonwealth. College Radio Day began in the United States in 2011. The event is internationally known as World College Radio Day.

The aim of College Radio Day is to raise a greater awareness of the many university and college radio stations that operate in the nation by encouraging people who would not normally listen to these radio stations to do so on this day. College Radio Day also celebrates the contributions of college stations nationwide in broadening the airwaves of their respective college towns with music and reporting that is non-commercial, locally relevant, and produced by students and community members with a passion for non-mainstream culture.

Pennsylvania’s college radio stations serve as entertainment and an information source for students and have helped countless young men and women find their voices in an environment free from the limitations and restrictions of commercial radio. Please join me in recognizing the importance of college radio stations on campuses throughout the state and promoting their successful future for years to come.
