Subject: | Dr. Guion S. Bluford, Jr. Resolution |
In the near future I plan to introduce a resolution honoring Dr. Guion S. Bluford Jr. for his many accomplishments as an astronaut and a fighter pilot in the United States Air Force. Colonel Bluford was born in 1942 in West Philadelphia, was an Eagle Scout in the Boy Scouts of America and graduated from Overbrook Senior High School in 1960. It is with distinct honor that the city of Philadelphia named one of our schools, Bluford Grade school, after the distinguished man who became the first African American in Space in 1983 aboard the space shuttle Challenger. Dr. Bluford was inducted into the International Space Hall of Fame and he has received more than 50 special honors for his outstanding achievement as an astronaut, officer and scholar. If you wish to honor this great man please sign onto my resolution. |
