MEMORANDUM

To: All House members
Subject: Supporting a Closer Economic and Trade Relationship with Taiwan

In the near future, I will be introducing a resolution encouraging a closer economic and trade relationship between the United States of America and the Republic of China (Taiwan) by furthering the partnership between the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania and Taiwan in energy development in coal and shale gas. It is my sincere hope you will join me in this effort.

For the United States, Taiwan was the 9th largest trading partner in 2011 and the 10th largest foreign market.
Taiwan’s inclusion in the United States Visa Waiver Program (VWP) on November 1, 2012, allows Taiwan and the United States, including Pennsylvania, to witness a rapid growth in all areas of bilateral development.

Pennsylvania established a trade and investment office in Taiwan in November 2005 which has been functioning more efficiently than most other states’ similar foreign offices. Pennsylvania and Taiwan can enjoy mutual benefits through important investments by multinational companies.

Please join me in encouraging the United States House of Representatives to support the potential partnership between Pennsylvania and Taiwan in energy perspectives.
