Subject: Air Force Reserve Command 911th Airlift Wing - 50th Anniversary (Moon Township, Allegheny County)
 
In the very near future, I will be introducing a Resolution honoring the Air Force Reserve Command 911th Airlift Wing, Moon Township, on its 50th Anniversary.

The Base was formed in 1963 as the 911th Troop Carrier Group and was redesignated as the airlift wing in 1994. The facility began flying the C-130 transport planes still used today in the 1980s.

Over the years, many Air Force Reserve members have been activated or have volunteered for humanitarian and relief efforts and missions such as Operation Desert Storm and Operation Iraqi Freedom.

The base, which employs about 1,220 reservists and 320 civilians, has escaped closures three times over the past two decades. The facility is obviously very important to the area economy.
