MEMORANDUM

Posted: September 5, 2013 03:10 PM
From: Representative Pam Snyder
To: All House members
Subject: Legislation that addresses the repercussions of careless shooting accidents that occur while hunting in Pennsylvania

In the near future, I will be introducing legislation that addresses the repercussions of careless shooting accidents that occur while hunting in Pennsylvania. I believe that there is an obvious need to better protect our sportsmen and women from individuals who have harmed or killed someone due to their past negligent behavior while hunting.

Specifically, my legislation will expand the time that a person is denied the ability to hunt in the Commonwealth for various unsafe acts. The measure includes the following provisions:
  • The prohibition from hunting for shooting at someone that results in either no injury or bodily injury is raised from two to five years.
  • The prohibition from hunting for shooting someone and causing serious bodily injury is raised from a period of 5 to 10 years to a period of 20 to 30 years.
  • The prohibition from hunting for killing someone is raised from 15 years to a lifetime ban.
  • A new lifetime ban from hunting for an individual that is prohibited from carrying a firearm under either Federal or State law who is cited for any of these violations.
Please join me in co-sponsoring this important piece of legislation.
