Subject: Resolution calling on the Office of Attorney General to investigate the proliferation of opioid drugs across the Commonwealth

I plan to introduce a resolution calling on the Office of the Attorney General to investigate the proliferation of opioid drugs across the Commonwealth. My resolution seeks to examine the costs associated with excessive use and diversion of opioid painkillers and develop a plan to recover damages to the Commonwealth from drug manufacturers and distributors. The resolution further envisions the establishment of a recovery fund to use recovered money for the treatment of prescription and other drug addictions.

Pennsylvania’s families are suffering from the epidemic of prescription opioid drugs, families are burying their loved ones, our prisons are overcrowded with inmates, men and women, incarcerated with addiction related offenses and daily, our cities and neighborhoods are under siege by drug-fueled crimes. It’s time for us to act now to address the painful issues related to opioid dependency.

Please join me in cosponsoring this important legislation which I have attached for your convenience!
