Subject: | Fish & Boat Commission - Project 70 funds |
In the near future I intend to introduce legislation that will allow the Fish and Boat Commission to proceed with the sale of Commission property located in Benner Township, Centre County. The property was used, at one time, to house managers and/or foremen at the Pleasant Gap State Fish Hatchery. The practice of housing such staff on hatchery property has been discontinued and, thus, the property in question is surplus to the needs of the Fish and Boat Commission. Because the property was acquired with Project 70 funds, the General Assembly must authorize the removal of Project 70 restrictions before the Commission may sell the property. My proposal will remove the Project 70 restrictions and require the Fish and Boat Commission to use the proceeds of the sale of the property to acquire land that may be utilized for fish and/or other wildlife conservation and recreation purposes. This legislation will serve two important purposes. It will provide the Commission with funding to acquire additional lands and it will allow surplus public land to be placed back on the tax rolls. Thank you! |
