Subject: | Eliminate School Property Taxes on Homesteads |
In the near future, I plan to introduce legislation that will eliminate school property taxes on all homestead properties. This legislation accompanies my constitutional amendment that would permit this legislation to be constitutional. Currently, the Pennsylvania Constitution limits the exclusions given to homesteads to one-half of the median assessed value of all homestead property within a local taxing jurisdiction. Following the passage of a constitutional amendment giving the General Assembly the authority to exempt up to 100% of the assed value of each homestead property within a taxing jurisdiction, my legislation would amend Title 72 to prohibit school districts from levying a property tax on homesteads. The General Assembly has long debated a way to address the heavy burden homeowners feel from property taxes. I am confident that this approach will provide a permanent solution. Please join me in co-sponsoring this important legislation to finally provide real property tax relief. |
