MEMORANDUM

Subject: Co-Sponsorship: Anger Management Study for Public, Parochial and Private Students

In the near future I plan to introduce legislation that would require individual anger management course of study to public, parochial and private students.

Anger is an emotional state that varies from mild irritation to intense rage. All of us have been witness to numerous news reports of people who could not control their anger and as a result created devastating violent incidents in the United States.

The goal of anger management classes would be to reduce emotional feelings that can cause anger to students. I feel, if the course is instituted, they are able to learn coping skills such as expressing anger, suppressing anger and calming techniques dealing with anger. Our students need to learn how to make clear what their needs are, and how to get them met, without hurting others.

In addition, unexpressed anger can also create passive-aggressive behavior and feelings of being cynical and hostile.

It is my belief that students need to be taught to develop a range of techniques for changing their thinking and behavior when coping with rage and anger.
