Subject: | Union Recertification |
In the near future, I plan to introduce a piece of legislation which will empower unionized Commonwealth employees by allowing them to vote on whether or not to recertify their representative union. Specifically, my legislation would amend the Public Employee Relations Act (Act 195 of 1970) to require a neutral, private organization to administer a secret ballot election amongst public employees in a bargaining unit every three years. Very simply, if a majority of votes cast reject the continued representation of the union, the union would be decertified. Most unionized state employees have never had the opportunity to vocalize their approval or disapproval of their incumbent union representative. Allowing these workers to have a voice in their union representation will ensure a constructive and healthy working environment for Commonwealth employees. Please join me in co-sponsoring this piece of legislation. If you have any questions please contact Carol Hoffman at (717) 783-8875 or by e-mail at choffman@pahousegop.com |
