MEMORANDUM

Posted: December 11, 2013 02:12 PM
From: Representative Tim Briggs
To: All House members
Subject: Resolution Commemorating the 50th Anniversary of the King of Prussia Mall

In the near future, I will be introducing a resolution commemorating the 50th Anniversary of the King of Prussia Mall.

Officially opening in 1963, it is the largest shopping mall in the United States of America in terms of leasable retail space. With over 400 stores, including premiere anchor stores Nordstrom, Macy's, Lord & Taylor, Bloomingdale’s, and Neiman Marcus; the assembly of luxury retailers is unmatched in the region, and the location is considered by many to be the ultimate mall in the nation.

Some luxury retailers have the King of Prussia Mall as their only location in the region, including such icons as Louis Vuitton, Gucci, Hugo Boss, Cartier, and DKNY. Recent noteworthy additions include Vera Bradley, L.L. Bean, Touché Accessories, Lush Cosmetics, Omega, Aveda, and Tommy Bahama.

The mall attracts over 20 million visitors a year, employs over 7,000 people and generates over $1 billion in annual retail sales. Roughly 20% of the mall’s shoppers are tourists who are visiting the Philadelphia region.

With its location 25 miles northwest of Philadelphia, at the junction of Routes 202, 76, 422, and the Pennsylvania Turnpike, the King of Prussia Mall has been easily accessible for travelers and shoppers for half a century.

I hope you will join me in celebrating 50th anniversary of the premiere shopping destination on the East Coast.
