Subject: | Resolution urging US Senate to Oppose Debo Adegbil’s DOJ Nomination |
Later this week, I plan to introduce a resolution calling on the Senate of the United States to oppose President Obama's nomination of Debo Adegbile as the next Assistant Attorney General for the Civil Rights Division at the U.S. Department of Justice. Debo Adegbile was previously President of the NAACP Legal Defense Fund and led the organization when it volunteered to represent and work tirelessly to free convicted murderer Mumia Abu-Jamal, a radical activist who was convicted of the 1981 execution-style murder of Philadelphia Police Officer Daniel Faulkner, and was sentenced to death by a jury of his peers. This resolution is in line with the view of the National Fraternal Order of Police who have expressed their vehement opposition to this disrespectful appointment. The killing of Daniel Faulkner is still a very sensitive issue for law enforcement and all Pennsylvanians, particularly because of the national attention that has and continues to be given in support of a known cop-killer. Mr. Adegbile's role in the defense of Abu-Jamal directly calls into question his ability to defend the constitutional rights of all Americans. Please join me so that we can send a united message to the U.S. Senate to oppose the nomination of Mr. Adegbile. |
