MEMORANDUM

Posted: January 16, 2014 09:59 AM
From: Representative Michael H. Schlossberg
To: All House members
Subject: Resoltution: Spay Day

In the near future, I plan to introduce a resolution designating February 25, 2014, as “Spay Day” in Pennsylvania.

Pet overpopulation continues to be a problem that impacts Pennsylvania’s communities and the costs of managing these overpopulation impacts public and private organizations millions of dollars annually. Spaying and neutering of pets has proven to be a successful and cost-effective means to control this problem. In an effort to recognize and encourage spaying and neutering as a means to address pet overpopulation, veterinarians, animal care and control organizations, national and local animal welfare organizations, and private individuals have come together over the past several decades to annually declare a “World Spay Day.” This year, “World Spay Day” will be held on February, 25, 2014.

In light of the continued pet overpopulation challenge facing our state, I feel that it is important that we, members of the Pennsylvania House of Representatives, designate February 25, 2014, as “Spay Day” in the Commonwealth and encourage Pennsylvanians to have their own pets spayed or neutered or support programs in their community that offer accessible spay and neuter services.

I hope you will decide to co-sponsor this resolution. If you have any questions, please contact my Legislative Assistant Geoff Brace (gbrace@pahouse.net).
