Subject: | Resolution regarding the administration of the Delaware River Port Authority (DRPA) process to appoint a new CEO |
I will be introducing a resolution regarding the administration of the Delaware River Port Authority (DRPA). The DRPA is a $325-million-a-year bi-state agency, funded by tolls, which provides safe, secure, affordable transportation to Commonwealth residents. As many of you are aware, DRPA has come under fire over the last several years regarding its expenditure of funds on economic development projects, and its toll increases. DRPA is currently under investigation by the FBI for its spending practices. Three weeks ago, DRPA’s chief executive officer was appointed to the New Jersey Superior Court by Governor Chris Christie. The person named as interim CEO for the DRPA is its current chief financial officer. While Governor Christie has the power to appoint a new CEO in the next 30 days, I believe it would be prudent for DRPA to take the time to conduct a nationwide search for a suitable candidate to lead, reform and revitalize this important public agency. Auditor General Eugene DePasquale shares my concerns and, as a member of the DRPA Board of Commissioners, has called upon Governor Christie to hold off on appointing a permanent CEO until a thorough search for an outstanding professional candidate has been conducted. Please join me in sponsoring this resolution. Thank you. |
