Subject: Resolution Recognizing Pocono Raceway for its Economic Impact to the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania

In the near future, I will be introducing a resolution recognizing Pocono International Raceway in Long Pond, Pennsylvania for its economic contributions to the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. The raceway spends millions of dollars every year on wages, salaries, supplies and other miscellaneous services and equipment and attendance at races and events directly contributes to local businesses.

The raceway is one of the most unique tracks in the world, spanning 2.5 miles in the shape of a triangle. For over 45 years, Pocono Raceway has hosted the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series, NASCAR Camping World Truck Series, ARCA Racing Series and the Indy Car Series.

Now under its third generation, the raceway is one of the few independent NASCAR tracks that are family-owned and operated. The traditional NASCAR schedule now includes the Pocono Indy Car 400 Fueled by Sunoco. These annual events attract hundreds of thousands of racing fans and contribute millions of dollars and thousands of jobs to the economy of Northeast Pennsylvania.

In 2013 Pocono Raceway contributed $257.5 million to the income of Northeast Pennsylvania residents, created approximately 2,752 new jobs, and generated almost $15 million of tax revenue for the Pennsylvania State Government.

In 2014 the raceway intends to expand the number of facility users and sponsor new, non-traditional events, making its potential economic impact even greater. The forecast for 2014 is that Pocono Raceway will generate $277 million of new income for the region and create 3,009 jobs.

I hope you will join me in recognizing the economic contributions The Pocono Raceway has made to the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania.
