MEMORANDUM

Posted: March 10, 2014 04:29 PM
From: Representative Tim Hennessey and Rep. Steve Samuelson
To: All House members
Subject: 35th Anniversary of the Department of Aging

As Chairmen of the House Aging and Older Adult Services Committee, we ask that you join us in commemorating the 35th Anniversary of the Pennsylvania Department of Aging.

Established under Act 70 of 1978 by Governor Milton Shapp, the Department of Aging was created to provide older adults with programs and services that would enrich their quality of life. In conjunction with the anniversary, the Department of Aging has begun a yearlong celebration of its mission to improve the quality of life of older Pennsylvanians by empowering diverse communities, the family and the individual. On February 27, 1979 Gorham Black was sworn as Pennsylvania’s first Secretary of Aging.

35 years after its founding, the Department remains committed to enhancing the lives of older Pennsylvanians by offering programs and services administered by the Department and through its network of 52 Area Agencies on Aging.

Please join us in celebrating this milestone.
