Subject: | April 2014 as National Jazz Month in Pennsylvania |
In the near future, Representative Kinsey and myself plan to introduce a resolution that will designate April 2014 as National Jazz Month in Pennsylvania. Jazz music has left an indelible impression on American culture. While many may associate only New Orleans with the history of jazz, both Pittsburgh and Philadelphia, and a number of cities, towns, and boroughs across Pennsylvania, have played an integral role in the evolution of jazz culture. In fact, two great Pennsylvanians, Kenny Clark and John Coltrane, were instrumental in bringing about the Bebop revolution that dominated music in the mid-twentieth century. Jazz is uniquely American, and Pennsylvania has played a major role in its evolution. It is for these reasons I believe it is important to recognize April 2014 as National Jazz Month in Pennsylvania. Please join us in co-sponsoring this resolution. |
