Subject: Cash Gift Ban
 
Colleagues,

Although it is a sad day when we need to make the law unequivocally say what any person should already know not to do, I am today seeking co-sponsors to change the Ethics Act to ban all cash gifts.

Recent news reports have highlighted this unnecessary lapse in the law. Whatever the outcome of any investigation, the recent stories have put a taint on the entire General Assembly.

Quite simply, cash gifts have no place in our line of work.

The issue we are addressing here is alleged graft and we must always strive in our law-making role to protect the integrity of the people’s House. I believe that my proposed legislation will meet this goal.
