Subject: | Proposed Resoluton recognizing April 9, 2014 as "Nutritional Improvement for Children's Meals in Restaurants Day" in Pennsylvania |
Shortly I will be introducing a Resolution urging Restaurants improve the nutritional quality of children's meals in order to preserve the health and well being of children. It is estimated that today, children eat at restaurants twice as often as they did in the 1970's, consuming almost twice as many calories when eating out due to the lack of healthy options available.. Between 2008 and 2012 the percentage of restaurant provided children's meals meeting nutritional standards increased from 1% to 3%. A recent study of restaurant customers showed that nearly 2/3 of households with children under 12 years of age would prefer healthier options for their children. Given the growing role of restaurant foods in the diets of their children and the high rates of childhood obesity, it is important that children are given healthier choices when eating at restaurants in order to help them maintain healthier diets and promote their long term health. Your support would be appreciated of this Resolution to designate April 9, 2014 as Nutritional Improvement for Children's Meals in Restaurants Day" in Pennsylvania. |
