Subject: | Drinking Water Week Resolution |
In the near future, I plan to introduce a resolution designating the week of May 4 through May 10, 2014, as “Drinking Water Week” in Pennsylvania. In recognition of the significance of one of our most precious natural resources, this resolution is annually introduced by the Chair of the House Environmental Resources and Energy Committee. Last year’s resolution, sponsored by Representative Ron Miller, was adopted unanimously by the House. Water conservation and water quality maintenance are essential to the vitality of this Commonwealth. Because drinking water is generally provided instantaneously by community water systems on a 24-hour basis, many of us may take for granted the availability of safe and reliable drinking water. However, the availability of high quality drinking water to homes and businesses is due to ongoing concerted efforts by the Department of Environmental Protection, the Pennsylvania Public Utility Commission, PENNVEST, the H20 PA Program and approximately 2,200 community drinking water systems across the Commonwealth. Please join me in raising awareness of the drinking water treatment process and urging all residents of this Commonwealth to protect our watersheds and conserve our precious drinking water supply. |
